Why knowing the Highway Code still matters
We’re proud to support TfL’s Highway Code campaign and raise awareness of the rules.

London’s roads are busy, complex and shared. Every day, drivers move alongside people walking, cycling and riding motorcycles, often within the same short journey. That’s why the Highway Code remains essential for anyone driving in the capital. It sets out the rules that help keep everyone safe and traffic flowing smoothly.
Transport for London is reinforcing this through its Highway Code campaign, which aims to raise awareness of key rules designed to protect those most at risk on London’s roads. The campaign also supports TfL’s Vision Zero commitment, which sets the ambition that no one should be killed or seriously injured on London’s roads by 2041.
That’s why we’re proud to support Transport for London’s Highway Code campaign, helping raise awareness of key rules that protect those most at risk on London’s roads and support TfL’s Vision Zero ambition.
A timely reminder for drivers
The Highway Code applies to everyone who uses the road, but drivers play a critical role in keeping others safe. Updates were made to the Highway Code in 2022, and research shows many drivers are still unclear on key rules, particularly around priority at junctions and crossings.
TfL’s campaign focuses on a small number of high impact rules where misunderstanding or poor compliance can lead to serious harm, including:
• Always stopping for people at zebra crossings
• Letting people cross before you turn at a junction
• Giving priority to cyclists going straight ahead before you turn at a junction
• Always stopping at red lights
These are simple behaviours. When followed consistently, they reduce risk and help create safer streets for everyone.
Why this matters to us
At PayByPhone, we’re part of everyday driving journeys across London. Whether someone is parking near home, work or the shops, the safety of the roads and pavements around them matters. PayByPhone, we simplify your journey so you can focus on what matters most.
We believe small actions make a big difference. Slowing down, giving way and checking carefully before turning are everyday choices drivers make that help protect people walking, wheeling and cycling, and make London a better place to move around.
