Donate Your Device Hounslow

The Digital Poverty Alliance (DPA) has launched Tech4Communities in Hounslow, inviting local people to donate unwanted laptops, tablets and smartphones that can be refurbished and passed on to residents who need them most.

Funded by PayByPhone, and supported by the London Borough of Hounslow, the scheme aims to help families and households experiencing digital poverty stay connected, access education and develop digital skills.

Residents can currently donate working devices to donation points at Hanworth Library,  Isleworth Library and Chiswick Library with more to follow.

 All donated devices will be securely wiped and refurbished before being redistributed, and will support people of all ages, from children who need a laptop for homework, to older residents wanting to stay connected and adults looking for work.

 Elizabeth Anderson, CEO of the Digital Poverty Alliance, commented:

“Digital exclusion is one of the defining inequalities of our time and it is unacceptable that so many people are locked out of education, employment and essential services simply because they lack access to a device. At a time when one in five childrenis in digital poverty and more than 19 million people in the UK are digitally excluded, the need to act has never been more urgent.”

“The cost of devices should never be a limitation and is why device donation schemes like Tech4Communities in Hounslow are so vital. They remove financial barriers to connectivity while ensuring that everyone has the tools they need to participate in an increasingly digital world.”

Any devices that cannot be reused will be used for parts or recycled within the UK, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Devices donated by Hounslow residents will be refurbished and redistributed within the borough, helping to reduce e-waste and extend the life of unused technology.

By opening donation points first, the initiative will allow local people to support their neighbours directly. Later in the year, the programme will open applications for refurbished devices.
