Mobile parking payments launch across the county
SOMERSET, UK, 11 April 2019 - The launch of PayByPhone, a new cashless parking system for Somerset, means drivers will no longer have to pay a fee to use their mobile phone to park.
From April 2019, drivers will be able to use PayByPhone’s services to pay for parking across several Somerset districts, including Sedgemoor, Mendip and Somerset West and Taunton.
Those who live and work across Somerset can use PayByPhone parking services for free, and benefit from the opportunity to receive a free-of-charge reminder of when their parking time slot ends. With the ‘Extend-From-Anywhere’ feature, users can extend their parking time from the convenience of their devices, wherever they are.
Steve Deakin, Parking Services Manager for Somerset County Council, said:“All drivers in Somerset now have the option to go fully cashless and to enjoy the advantages of the services PayByPhone offers. They don’t have to carry cash or cards anymore or worry about running back to top up the parking before their session expires. Whether they are out for dinner, at a meeting, or shopping, the parking session can be extended from anywhere at any time.”
In addition to the cashless parking and extend-from-anywhere benefits, PayByPhone users can now also use the recently-launched Maps and the Nearby Parking features. The Maps feature allows drivers to locate parking before they leave for their destination and pin their vehicle location onto the map once they have parked. The Nearby Parking feature instantly provides drivers with the closest PayByPhone parking location number once they have parked.
Hannah Fuller, Operations Director for PayByPhone UK, says: “Weare very excitedto launch PayByPhone in Somerset. Mobile parking payments have many advantages for people who live and work in the area and to the local authority. Not only does it make the parking experience more convenient and hassle-free when going cashless, but also it greatly reduces vandalism and the cost of maintaining pay-and-display machines.”
PayByPhone encourages drivers to download the app now, so they are ready to use the new service from the minute they go live. Registration is very simple and takes less than 30 seconds.
PayByPhone has been present in the United Kingdom since 2011 and currently helps drivers easily pay for their parking, including Exeter, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Manchester, and several London Boroughs. In the London Borough of Haringey, PayByPhone helped completely eliminate the use of pay-and-display machines.
